I am my friends keeper!

Imagine being the apple of your fairy parents’ eyes, especially your dad who always encourages you by saying “Always try and do your best because your best is good enough,” but one day all this is no more.

Elif, the Chimney Fairy, is a childrens story about bullying, courage, friendship and sacrifice of a once shy fairy in the village of Goreme, in the magical land of Cappadocia in Turkey. Elif witnesses two fairy sisters being bullied by a gnome. She must muster her courage to stand up to the bully and protect her fellows, who soon become some of her best firends. Later, Elif finds another moment in which another fairy needs her help.

Vani Twigg weaves a powerful little tale that is destined to touch the hearts of many. While the story may appear altruistic, it is the way Elif has been nurtured that contributes to how she sees her relationship with others and the world. This tale strongly reflects early childhood development. A good farmer yields a good harvest is just one of the enriching ideas that this book will give you. Twigg is an objective narrator as she moves freely and straightforwardly into the life and times of Elif. Ina Isnaedi’s watercolor illustrations have arresting gradations that are an animating element in the characters, thereby heightening the attractiveness of this storybook. Elif the Chimney Fairy is not just a beautiful story; it’s sublime. This book is highly recommended for parents, teachers, counselors, and school libraries.

An email from Linda arrived in my inbox just before I went for a walk down Shenzhen bay during Chinese National Day holiday in September, 2021 to inform me that after appraising my first children’s story, Aurora House was interested in publishing ‘Elif the Chimney Fairy of Cappadocia.’ Woohoo! From this day and many communications, advice, suggestions throughout 2021, ‘Elif, the Chimney Fairy’ was published in December, 2022.

I am indebted to Linda and her team for their tireless efforts in enabling the publication of my first story, a labour of love for 10 years. Their professional expertise in the field of publishing is one area I am in awe of. The nitty-gritty and ins-and-outs of editing, layout, marketing and patience was an experience I have been grateful for especially since I am based in China.

Thank you, Linda for believing in this story and project. May all the fairies in the world grant you and Aurora House all that is possible in the field of publishing.
